All tracks are recorded live during the 3-day concert 'Hard Breakfast' in march
1981.
Hard Breakfast was a spectacular engagement by Autumn, with a major setup of
piles of electronic equipment, and a large team of enthousiasts turning HB into
a multimedia show long before the term was invented. At only 17 years of age,
Autumn made clear they were here to stay and had something to say.
The Hard Breakfast tape is special because it contains mainly tracks that were composed during this event and are improvised at time of performance. All tracks are recordings from the live performance that took over 2 hours. Most instruments were brand new and hired for the event, meaning that the musicians weren't familiar with the equipment beforehand. However, one can hear that this was not a set-back, but a source of inspiration for the band. While most electronic musicians tried to copy their role-models like Klaus Shulze or Tangering Dream, Autumn tried to do different, bringing in Vocals, Flute, Guitars and rhythms to blend with pure electronic sounds and special effects. Also, the entourage of live computer animation and jazz-dance performance made a big impression on the select audiance.

HARD BREAKFAST was recorded live at De Smis, march 1981, at the second day of the 3-day / 3-venue happening. Recording was realised with just 2 microphones in front of the audiance. All music composed by Autumn on stage (except 'Still Waves the Dream'). All arrangements are live improvised. Parts Epsilon 1 and 3, parts Omicron 2c and 4 are complete live imporvisations. No tapes or dubbing used. Performed, recorded, mixed and produced live by Autumn.
